We believe unplanned pregnancies should not mean unplanned choices and that expectant mothers without support become victims. We also believe that many women given compassion and support would choose to keep their babies.
Today an unplanned pregnancy will interrupt the life of a woman here in our community. She will be one of many who will make a choice. Her decision will be based on a multitude of factors that include her relationship with her partner, family, friends, a home to live in, a job with income, and healthcare. Without adequate support in these areas, she is a woman in crisis and she will see no positive solution.
Each day, it is estimated that over forty young women, under the age of 20, will become pregnant in Maricopa County. Of these pregnancies, 86% of the women are unmarried and 57% are economically disadvantaged. It is in response to these women that Yes,You Have a Choice dba Sofia's House, a non-profit 501(C) was founded.
Sofia's House operates on a referral and crisis need basis. Each home consist of full time on site staff. Certified volunteers provide counseling, training programs, health care assistance, and transportation. Sofia's House is sustained through the generosity and support of donors and community grants.
